How to Pick Your Image for your Canvas Photo Prints

With the advent of digital cameras, nearly anyone can take a beautiful, in-focus, perfectly exposed photograph. With all these gorgeous images being created, how does one pick which would work best on a canvas photo print?

Canvas photo prints are simply large, high-quality prints of photographs placed on canvas. This process allows ordinary photographs to look more like works of art. Canvas photo prints are becoming more and more popular with people trying to make a unique decorating statement in their homes and offices.

But how do you know which of your photographs will translate well onto a canvas print?

Here are some tips:

• Pick a photograph with vivid colors, in the case of a color print, or dramatic shadows, if you prefer black and white.
• The photo should be in focus. Even with today's digital cameras, images can be fuzzy. An image that looks fuzzy on a four-by-six standard print will look even more fuzzy on a large canvas. Images should be crisp and well defined.
• If you want a canvas print of a person, their image should nearly fill the frame. Make certain your photo doesn't have unintentional humor, like a lamp or potted plant 'growing' out of someone's head. With children, the shots can and should be tight, the image filling the frame.
• With still life, such as flowers or other objects, they should also fill the frame or have some visual interest. Again, bold colors translate beautifully on canvas prints.
• For landscapes, look for drama in shapes, colors, or composition. It's vitally important in landscapes that your horizon is straight, although this can sometimes be helped with cropping.
